Welcome to the Otters class with Mrs Boosey. Year 2 is an exciting and challenging year! In Year 2 we are always reaching for the stars and we love learning. As the oldest children in our school, we act as role models for younger children and set a good example both in work and in play.
Come and have a look at all the different things we have been doing...
Have you seen the Kids’ Zone? Play games and visit some cool websites!
Today we had a very special visit from Mr Merriman and Barbara the skeleton. We learnt so much about the role of a physiotherapist and all about the human body. Ask your child to tell them what they learnt about bones and muscles. Can they answer these quiz questions;
What does a physiotherapist do?
How many bones can they name? What do we have bones for?
Why are muscles special? What can they do?
How many body parts can you name with only 3 letters?
A huge thank you to Mr Merriman, we all learnt lots!
We had a great day working in our pyjamas raising lots of money for Comic Relief!
Thank you everyone!
20.3.17 CIRCUS SKILLS AFTERNOON
This afternoon we enjoyed a Circus Skills taster, we had so much fun! We learnt some of the skills needed to be a super circus performer, such as plate spinning, balancing, juggling and walking on stilts. Watch out for an after school club coming soon!
Today we had a wonderful visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park! We learnt lots more about sculptures and we enjoyed looking at all the representational and abstract sculptures in the park. We thought about the materials the sculptures were made out of, how the sculptures made us feel and what they looked like to different people. We even made our own sculptures out of clay and we created our own bright, bold slogans. The sun shone for us all day and we all had a brilliant time! Well done to all the otters for their brilliant behaviour!
Sculptures made out of foil and wood!
Our Climbing Frame is now officially OPEN! This morning we had an opening ceremony to cut the ribbon and Mrs Hall even went down the slide! Thank you to all parents and members of the community who helped raise the huge amount of money needed to buy it, we are very grateful! The children love the new addition to the playground!
Wow! What a fantastic Magical Maths Family Learning Afternoon! We had a great time with all the different maths games and challenges. We enjoyed solving problems and puzzles, making and creating and challenging our friends to a game of noughts and crosses!
We are using our imagination to create sculptures with natural materials.
Our new climbing frame is just amazing!
This term we are also learning how to bake scones! This week we followed the recipe to make some plain scones. We have tasted our scones and decided on some things we could add to improve our them....have a look next week to see what we decided to add!
It's been a very busy first week back starting our new topic! This week we have been thinking about sculptures. We thought about what they are and what they are made from. We have also made some of our own! We have also been thinking about different materials and why we use materials to make certain things. Perhaps you could have a look at home and see how different materials are used around your home.
Welcome back! Our new topic this half term is 'Art Attack'. Have a go at one of our topic home learning challenges and bring your learning to show us during show and tell time on a Friday.
In our baking lessons this half term we have been evaluating and designing pizzas. This week we have designed our final pizzas and tasted them, they were delicious!
Could you have a go making one at home?
Our Learning This Week
In our writing lessons with Mrs Boosey, we are learning all about Instructional Texts. We know all about the features of this text type and we have been using lots of bossy verbs! Our favourite game to play is Bossy Verb Charades!
In class we have been following instructions to make pizzas! Can you follow the recipe at home? Can you retell the text map to your grown up?
Just a few reminders!
Remember to bring your book bag everyday and sign your planner to show us you have read your reading books each week!
Remember to bring your PE kits to school!
Please make sure everything is named!
