8.1.21 Here is a snapshot of our wonderful learning this week. We are so proud of all our Year 1 children. Keep it up!

Remote Learning Challenges. These are key skills to practise every day!

Year 1 had a Zoom call with Bob all the way on the Moon! Children thought carefully about what information they wanted to know and asked Bob lots of questions. We learnt about the Moon, rocket ships and the life of an astronaut! Bob doesn’t believe in aliens on the Moon, do you?

Our topic this half term is 'Earth and beyond'. We would love to see any of your home learning linked to this topic, be creative! Our talk for writing story this half term is 'Man on the moon' and we look forward to retelling this story with actions over the next few weeks.

Have a look at our wonderful writing from this week! We have been writing the opening to the 'Three Little Pigs', trying hard to use capital letters and full stops for each sentence. Good job Year 1!

Our class story this half term is ‘The Three Little Pigs’, can you retell the story to your grown up at home? What is your favourite part of the story?

A wonderful local walk as part of our topic ‘Our community’. Talk to your grown ups about what we saw!

Look at our fantastic self portraits. Can you spot yourself?

We have had a fantastic few days settling into Year 1! It's great to be back in school where we can play and learn with our friends again and we have had lots of fun exploring our new classroom! The adults in Year 1 have been very impressed with our phonics, got to job work and tidying up skills!!

Ideas for learning at home

  • Write your numbers to 20, can you count forwards and backwards?
  • Practise writing a sentence using a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop
  • Read your reading book with a grown up and talk about the key events and characters in the story
  • Build a model and draw a labelled plan
  • Create something using your imagination; a collage, a model, a puppet, a painting!
